You just simply tell him what is on your mind. Sit him down and talk face to face. Tell him in order for you guys to grow, you need space.

Be frank but also be sure that you don't hurt your partner's feelings. If your partner wants constantly be close to you, and you feel like you would be under pressure then, just explain the situation to your partner. However, there is no reason to shout this with anger or start nagging about it, be gentle in the beginning.

I think the best way to approach that is with total honesty, because either way your partner will be on some level hurt. It's no use in trying to make it seem better than it actually is, if space is what you need then you should just say how smothering you is not helping the relationship.

You might consider the ultimatum approach whereby you inform your partner that a break-up could be inevitable if you are not able to obtain your desired space.

To do this successfully, you must be firm but very tactful and understanding. Make sure your mate understands the importance of having room to grow as individual as well.

You say that love should be an amazing part of your life not a chore, when it becomes a chore it takes the fun out of things. I would suggest that you go out of your way when you do want to talk to them. Also tell them you are busy.

You tell your partner you need more space in the relationship VERY CAREFULLY. You need to let them know the love has not changed but you still need some time on your own. You can also recommend what your partner can do with their time alone.
