Tto refinish a coffee table you first have to sand the surface if it's wood to remove the old finish. After you sand it you must clean it so that no residue remains and then you can apply a protective coating that can have a touch of color in it.

Assuming is has a varnished or painted surface, sand the surfaces to rough up the surface. Fill any holes. Then primewith water-base primer, followed by 2 or more coats of paint. Use a small foam roller for a smooth finish. Seal with polyuerathane.
