There are two ways to determine if you are overweight. The simplified way is to check your weight against easily available BMI indexes that take into consideration your height. However these measurements are statistical in nature. True measurment of being overweight would be to have a body immersion test, where you body is dunked in water to determine fat content.

The body mass index (BMI) is usually used to determine that. BMI is defined as your weight (kg) devided by the square of your height (m). A normal BMI ranges from 18. 5 to 24. 9. If you have a BMI of more than 25, you are considered overweight, or even obese.

One measure of obesity uses the "BMI"-Body Mass Index, the ratio of your height to the square root of your weight. A result of 25 or higher indicates you are overweight. The formula is complex, so use tables found online. The BMI applies best to the average adult non-athlete.
