One of the best ways to naturally lighten your hair is with lemon juice. It isn't harsh and it will cut the shampoo and conditioner build up. All you do is apply a generous amount of juice to hair and sit in the sun.

Bleach the hair you want to highlight and wait a day or two before the actual dying. You should also wash your hair with a color-sensitive shampoo and condition for a few weeks after highlighting your hair.

Squeeze a small ammount of lemon juice onto selected strands of hair and run it through with your fingers. Do not wash this off. Sunlight will gently lighten the hair within a few hours.

Always do a strand test before lightening your hair. To avoid brassiness do not lighten drastically; choose a product that tones while lightening (a 'cool' shade, not a 'warm' shade). Post-ligthening it is possible to counter brassiness to some extent using a toner shampoo in the 'blue' range.

I suggestthe clairol frost & tip highlight kit. It doesn't tend to be as brassy as most others. Just make sure to leave it on long enough.

There is really no good way to do that and the reason it always comes out brassy is because unless you are albino you have red pigment in your hair and when you highlight your hair the peroxide brings out the red pigment and they don't put enough toner in the highlighting kits you buy in the store.
