Basically you would measure the voltage going through it and compare it to what it should be. Trying resetting it by pushing the button it shows a broken circuit.
On the fuel system, you can unplug the switch and make a jumper wire - testing in both "jumped" and "open".
Don't mess with the air bag switches!
Just unplugging one can activate the system.
Newer model explorers have the inertia switch located at the drivers side kick panel. Older model (box) have it on the passenger side panel. Press the button and try to start the truck.
