Dig your iris after they have finished blooming and the leaves have yellowed. Separate the rhizomes and make sure the soil is shaken off. Place them in a place where they have dry air. This can be a open box in a garage or shed.

Dig the iris from the bulb before the first frost. Once they are dry remove excess leaves and soil. Store in a cool and dry place.

Keep your iris rhizomes in a cool dark place, but don't let them freeze of course. Exposure to light will make them try to sprout, and exposure to wet or damp conditions could cause rotting and mold. Store them the way you would store potatoes.

Store the iris bulbs in a frost free space, so that they can be replanting after some months. It is important to dig and store the iris bulbs to safe the iris bulbs from the frost.

To store your iris's for a few months just keep them cool and dry. Place them in a brown paper bag and store in refrigerator or basement.

Iris's can not be stored for months at a time. They are good for about a week or two but anything over that will just kill it. They need to be out and rooted.
