Assuming you have enough playing and job experience, apply for the PGA Management Program. Upon completion you will be a PGA Pro and able to play in PGA tournaments.

You will need to establish a scratch handicap that is recognized by the USGA. Then sign up for tournaments and start playing. You will need to advance through minor tours.

First off, you have to have your pro card. Once you do, there are usually amateur contests around, which I would recommend you entering, and from there, you can enter some professional tournaments through qualifying rounds.

If you want to be a golf professional on the Professional Golf Tour, otherwise known as the PGA tour, you have to go through a rigorous PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament, known as the Q tour. This tour is known to be extremely hard to conquer since the competition to get a tour card is so fierce.

You will need an established handicap from the USGA that is very low ( close to scratch ) to be able to participate in tournaments. Sign up for every tournament you can enter and see if your game is good enough to compete with the others. You will have to start on the mini tours and move up.

To become a tour professional in golf you need you need to be a PGA-certified pro at a golf course.

You would need to enter and win a few local tournaments, and then get invited to a tournament on one of the qualifying tours, like the Nationwide. After you win a few on that tour, then your would have to qualify for your tour card, and then get invited to play on some tour events.

I would recommend trying to get your pro card first. I would then join a club, and see how you do there. If you succeed, then look at some of the amateur tours which are out there. If THAT goes well, you can look at qualifying for some professional tournaments.

The only way to become a tour professional golfer is to submit a resume to the PGA tour for Q school. If you're accepted, then you will have to play in a qualifying tournament to get in. Good luck.

You have to qualify at the PGA Qualifying School (Q-School). You'll pay a fee, and have to prove your handicap, to gain entrance. Good luck, it's incredibly difficult.
