How do I fix an alternator problem on my Ford F-150?

Worn contact brushes in the alternator area most likely cause of failure. Purchase new brush set and replace in the alternator. Cost should be under $20. OR If it does not works properly then just replace it. Otherwise check the belt and any wiring connected to it.

Generally when and alternator is starting to go, you need to replace the alternator to fix the problem. They're normally pretty cheap from local junkyards and are very easy to find.

Well if the alternator is not working properly then just replace it. Otherwise check the belt and any wiring connected to it.

i would take it to an auto shop and have someone who is a professional look at it to determine the problem. if you don't know what you are doing you can make the problem worse

You can take it to a wal-mart store and have them look at it and then they would tell you what you need to do to fix it your self.
