In most cases this is not recommended. Replacement of the oil pan would be the ideal fix. If replacement is not possible, drain oil, clean any loose rust, dirt and oil from area. Apply a good amount of 2 part epoxy over area and allow to dry.

Well if the oil pan is rusted to the point that it is leaking the you need to replace it. If you patch it without removing ALL the rust it will just start leaking again. Just scrap the old one and find a used one somewhere. Make sure to use a new gasket also.

In order to fix a rusty oil pan leak, you have to first remove the oil pan from the car. The car of course needs to be lifted up to be able to do that. Be careful because the oil pan is filled with oil which may be hot if the car has been driven for some time.

The easies thing to do is either plug the leak or change the oil pan. It is not good to keep the rusty oil pan as the rust may corrode further and damage the engine.

First drain the oil out of your vehicle. Then remove the oil pan and buy a new one. Be sure to purchase a new seal too.
