Visual detection is the way that works best. Ants are small and sometimes hard to see if they are underneath objects. If there are many ants, you can watch them travel as they will have one line to the food substance and another line leading away from it.

Usually, you will see the actual ants inside the house and be able to detect them. If you suspect they are in the walls or hidden, you can leave a small trail of regular sugar on the floor and if there are ants in the area, they will appear near or on the sugar soon.

You need to search for holes in the backyard or in the floors of the house frecuently this holes are in the cracks of the cement floors or in a clear area
