First, pull apart the mats as much as possible at their root. Then, using a metal comb and working in small quantities, comb them apart. Often large chunks of hair can then be pulled away. Use a detangler to make the job easier. Brush often to prevent further mats.

First you need to get some animal hair spray available at your local animal care store. Spray that on and it will help to get the tangles out. Next take a brush and gently work the hair until it is strait be careful not to pull to hard or the cat will be hurt.

I would try to give the cat a bath and use a conditioner that has a detangler in it. They make a very strong conditioner with LOTS of detangler in it for horses. To obtain some, visit a tack shop or check online to see if you can find some and have it shipped.
