The time of day and location will help with choosing an outfit. Some nice colors are black, light pink or champagne or gray. Try to pick a color that compliments you. But you'll also have to make sure it doesn't compete with the bride or bridesmaid dresses. You might try looking at the salon where the bride bought her dress.

I'd suggest going to a bridal shop and having the staff make recommendations. I think it's a great idea when the mother's find colors that compliment the theme of the wedding and/or bridesmaid dresses.

Many bridal shops and department stores have mother of the bride offerings. The mother of the bride ensemble should echo the theme of the wedding, ie casual, formal. It is best to wear a neutral color or a color that compliments the wedding party. Beading or embroidery are nice details.

Choose a different color from the groom's mother. Make sure the color doesn't clash with the color scheme of the wedding. I wouldn't choose a print.

Pick a color that matches or go with the bridemaids color. A nice suit or dressy dress. Also contact the grooms mother and see what she is going to wear. You don't want to outdo each other.

Give yourself plenty of time for this task, as it takes time to find just the special item for this important day. Choose something stylish, classic (nothing trashy) and remember this is her day, not yours. You will need to know the color theme for the wedding so your outfit doesn't clash when you have pictures taken.
