One way you can do it is by right-clicking anywhere on your desktop then click on properties. A window pops up with different tabs such as desktop, appearance, and settings. The second way is to click on the start button, click control panel, then click appearance and themes to change your background, screen resolution, and color quality too!

Right click on the desktop and choose either properties or personalize depending on your version of windows. You should then see either a Desktop tab (versions of Windows XP or earlier) or a Desktop Background link at the bottom of your screen (versions of Windows after XP). Click on either the tab or link, and change your settings.

You should go Start, Control Panel, Display. Then go to Desktop tab in Display window. Here you can find backgrounds that you have in Windows folder and in My Pictures folder. If you want to choose background from your files just choose Browse.

In Vista, you right click in the desktop and hit 'personalize', then hit desktop background. In XP or before, right click, hit properties, then wallpaper.
