Plant the tree in a partly shaded area. The soil should be very moist. During the first two growing seasons, the tree should be very thoroughly watered with root systems fully saturated. Surround tree with a 3-4 inch layer of mulch to preserve moisture. Use very little fertilizer during the first year and trim the tree regularly during dormant season.

Proper soil, correct fertilizer, and watering needs are crucial to the dogwood. Water weekly during dry times. Flowering dogwood trees require their special kind of fertilizer.

Give the tree plenty of water and sun light. In order to make your tree bloom, ensure that there is enough phosphorous and nitrogen in the soil.

Pink dogwoods require moisture. The ground around the dogwood should be heavily watered and covered with mulch, to retain more moisture. During the active growing season, trees should be watered twice a week. When dormant trees should be pruned to remove any dead, damaged or diseased tissue. Little 12-4-8 fertilizer should be used during the first growing season.
