Parents are often reluctant to send money to their children in times of need. Casually call them up on the phone, carry on a conversation for a while then slip in that your in a financial bond. They will more than likely offer to send money.

You need to be open and honest with them. Explain why you need the money, and have a plan in place to ensure that it will not become an ongoing problem. You also need to make sure that they understand that this sort of gift is an imposition, and do not expect it to become a common occurance.

You can tell them that you're in a pinch and need money to pay bills or eat, whatever you need it for. Tell them you feel bad for asking and that you wouldn't do it unless you really needed the money. If you will pay them back tell them that.
