To remove a load bearing wall you will need to jack up the area to be removed with some form of house jack. ONce the wall is removed you will then need to add a header to the at the top of where the wall was to support the weight.

The most important thing to do before tearing down a load-bearing wall is to use jacks to jack up the beams the wall being removed is currently supporting. Make sure you place the jacks where they can support the weight.

First determine if the wall is holding up a second storey. If so, you will need to reinforce the flooring of that second floor by alternative means. You will need to determine the plumbing situation and electrical installments that will be affected by removing the wall.

Depending on where the wall is located, you will need to place a support beam in the ceiling to replace the load-bearing wall you will be taking down. You may need to put up temporary supports during the demolition process until you can place the beam.
