"Albrecht Discount" a.k.a. Aldi Nord & Süd is an international (Europe, U.S. & Australia) German discount/no-frills-supermarket-chain. Stores are only in "profitable"-locations, limited-brands/products/suppliers, limited-hours, no "free" shopping-bags, limited credit/debit-card & coupon use, quarter/token shopping-cart-return, efficient-distribution/minimal-management, palletized/no-frills display/shelving, limited-advertising, minimum-overhead/staffing, probably minimum-wage?, no paid overtime, ...

Well one way is by selling bags and renting buggies. That provide extra money for things you should be getting for free. Other ways they save are buy buying goods in bulk and not marking them up as high on some things while others cost more than some places.

Aldis keeps there prices low by not having to pay extra money for bags, and they do not have to pay anyone to collect the carts outside. You have to bring boxes or our own bags. You also have to leave a 25 cent deposit that you get back when you return your buggie.
