How did JM Barrie come up with Tinkerbell?

Many people believe that the inspiration for Tinkerbell was Marilyn Monroe. In fact this is not the case. This arose from an error in an early trivia game. The real inspiration is Margaret Kerry, a dancer, who did in fact work with Marilyn Monroe herself, this has been confirmed by Margret in interviews.

Barrie was inspired by the sounds from a set of bells that he purchased in Switzerland. Her name comes from the old craft of "Tinking," whereby metal workers hammer tin.
