Harry Reid's prominence in U.S. politics can be attributed to his involvement in Nevada government at an early age. He attended high school with former Nevada Governor Mike O'Callaghan, and was his running mate in the gubernatorial elections of 1970. After his tenure there, he became a congressman and has been a senator representing Nevada since 1987.

Harry Reid was not born rich. His family did not even have an indoor toilet or hot water. Harry Reid went to law school, and eventually became a US Representative and also a US senator.
