If a dog's breath is extremely foul it is wise to let your Vet know as this can mean other things. You can give dog treats and let them chew on rawhides. This will help. You could inquire at your vet about dental cleaning also as the plaque on his teeth could be built up also.

If it's particularly bad it could be because his teeth need cleaning - your vet or pet store should carry canine toothbrushes and paste. You can also buy treats that help clean dog teeth. You could also look into changing your dog's diet, which may be a secondary culprit.

Check for abcessed teeth or things like bones or food stuck in his mouth. Have his teeth cleaned by your vet, then maintain regularly by brushing his teeth.

Bad breath in a dog can result from tooth decay. Your vet should examine your dog's teeth to make sure they are in healthy condition.

Try brushing your dog's teeth daily. There are also drops you can get (like breath mints for humans) or bones that help with bad breath.

I would suggest trying a dog treat designed to eliminate bad breath. Feeding a high quality dog food helps. Or, He may need a dental exam with your vet.
