To do this you need to find another chat program that will allow you to chat with yahoo. There should be a few out there and personally I have used Trillan and liked it. These programs typically also let you do other popular chat like msn and icq.

You can use their new Yahoo Messenger For the Web, which runs off your web browser and does not need to be downloaded.

If you go into your yahoo mail and on the left hand side toolbar you will see a notice that says online and offline. This is where you can use your messenger as long as you stay logged into your eamil.
