Well the first thing to do as a parent is not to give out copious amounts of advice. The best support is to offer a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear. Do not say anything negative about his soon to be ex-wife. He can say what he wants, you never know they could reconcile.

Be there. He's going through a really hard time right now whether this divorce is a friendly one or not. Resist the urge to bad-mouth your son's soon-to-be ex, especially if there are children involved. Remind him that you love him, and tell him this often. Offer to help him in any way you can.

Just be there for him. offer to help him in anyway that you possibly can. Listen to him if he needs someone to talk to.

The best thing you can do is give him time to process what has just happened. Going through a divorce is almost like a death. Time heals everything.

Don't let him date; focus on keeping in touch with his children, meeting all court dates and legal requirements. If he has trouble paying child support, help him pay.

The best way to show support for someone is to let them know you are there for them in any way that you can be. Help him take his mind off it, take him to a football game but just let him know how much you care.

You might be able to offer him a place to live while he is finding more permanant housing. Maybe he will need counseling and you could refer him to a good therapist or clergy person. If he has children encourage him to keep active in their lives and try to maintain a civil relationship with his ex.

You should be there when he needs you. The worst thing you can do is push yourself on him. Be there for him is the best thing you can do.
