Place a colander over the top of a pan of salted boiling water. Make sure the colander is a snug fit. The only way for steam to escape should be the colander holes. Bring water to the boil. The colander should be very hot to the touch. Spoon in rice. Seal with lid. Only add boiling water if needed.
the proportions are 1 portion of product to 2 equal portions of water. add water. boil. stir in rice. cover tightly. cook until water is absorbed, about 15-20 minutes.

a bunch of these answers are directions for what I would consider boiled rice. ie: the rice is cooked IN the water. steamed rice would be more like the directions that involve a steamer basket or colander and the rice is cooked in the steam. not actually submerged in water... add a comment
pour uncooked rice in a u- shaped vessel and pour water ie in proportion of 1:5 and boil the same remember to keep lid closed. If you have a induction heater you can set the timer and when it reaches set time and it will switch off you have strain the same.

geeze, that's helpful. not! I think "bentham" has the best answer. certainly the only one which actually speaks to the steam part of the process... add a comment
Put a colander inside a big pot with a couple inches of water in it. Put rice in colander, making sure the holes are small enough the rice doesnt all through. top with lid or aluminum foil so steam doesnt escape. Cook til done.
