Mental control can be identified by criticizing one's ability to make decisions or hold opinions contrary to that of the other person. "You can't think that - you're too stupid!" or "You can't decide that, you don't know better!"

The abusive relationship doesn't have to be a love relationship, it can also happen in a so-called friendship. A perfect example is a so-called friend that suddenly popped out of the woodwork and emailed me recently. After I replyed she replyed to my reply very disrepectfully!

Anything that is manipulative or making you feel uncomfortable in a relationship is abusive to some extent. If you do not have freedom to share your ideas, thoughts and wishes then you are in a controling relationship.

When controlled mentally, you will probably have bitterness and a lot of pent up emotions since you cannot release them because they are being used against you.You also do all the begging and apologizing since you are made to try always to please.
