These destructive pests can be hand picked from plants early morning before they become active. A homemade insecticidal soap can be made from a few drops of Dawn dishwashing detergent and water. Spray insects and plant thoroughly. Products with Neem Oil are recommended in severe cases. Encouraging birds to visit your yard will help eliminate Japanese beetles and grubs.

Birds eat these insects, therefore, you can encourage birds on your property and they will help. Spraying plants with insecticidal soap or products containing Neem oil is recommended. You can make your own soap with water and a few drops of Dawn detergent.

You can pick them by hand and put them into soapy water. Or you can use pesticides that are available against them. Kill them fast because they can atrract others.

Avoid using beetle traps on your property as they only serve to attract them. A mixture of dish soap and water sprayed on the leaves of a plant does well.

Fill a bowl with beer. Dig a small hole in the ground and place the bowl in it. The beetles will crawl in, drink the beer, and drown.

You can buy Japanese Beetle traps at a home & garden store. They're bags that hang on a shepherd's crook and lure the beetles in, where they get stuck.

One of the easiest ways to get rid of them is with an insecticidal soap made of 1-2 tablespoons of Castor oil soap mixed with tap water. Put it in a heavy duty spray bottle and spray on the plants.

Japanese beetles send out scouts in June which give off a scent to bring in more beetles. Knock the scouts into a cup of soapy water each day.

There are many pesticides commercially available that will rid your plants and trees of these pests. You should make sure the one you choose won't kill bees or earthworms.
