Usually the best thing to do is to replace it. If this is not possible, a large piece of plywood between the mattress and boxspring will fix issues with firmness, while a memory foam or "egg crate" mattress topper will help with softness. A combination of both is sometimes required.

I would rip the cover off and restuff it. But honestly its probably worth it just to buy a new one.

Plywood solves a lot of mattress problems. In some beds the mattress develops a slump or the springs wear out and require extra support to stay up.

I know it sounds funny, but the best way to fix a bad mattress is with duct tape. Just put some over the holes. It works great and the springs won't poke through.

You can try putting a memory foam mattress topper on it. That might help you, especially if the mattress is too hard. You can get the memory foam toppers for about a hundred dollars. It will get you buy for a year or two. In the meantime you can save up for a new mattress.

If you have a bad mattress, it is best not to fix it at all. You are better off just getting rid of it. It will only cause you problems and is not worth the time or energy to fix it. Buy a new mattress as that will be better for you in the long run.

There are alot of ways you can give help to a bad mattress you can take it to a mattress company and have them do some work on it. You can replace it thats what most people do. If it has spots that are bothersome you can also put a board under it and that will help also.
