The air injection system can leak, or a part can malfunction. If the computer set a code, then it is likely a switching valve. Get the repair manual from the parts store (Haynes). Follow the trouble tree in the manual to pinpoint the exact cause. Depending on cold or warm engine the air needs to switch up or down stream.

Typically when a secondary air injection system goes bad you have to replace the whole unit. There is a chance though, that you can just clean it really good and make sure all the connections are clean and leak free.

go buy a haynes or cilltons manual. it will give you all the info you need to do this repair
