No and yes. It can be a good way to obtain recognition for your ability in the stock market. Above average performance can be looked at skeptically because it remains to be seen if you can continue doing well beyond the time frame of the competition. Be wary of competitions that have excessive entry fees and trading commissions.

Yes. Yahoo had a Stock Market Pick 'Em competition. They ranked portfolios by percentile. It was free, easy, fun, and a good learning experience. I'd recommend it.

Never enter a stock competition with your own money, like those similar to fantasy football. Only enter those with an imaginary portfolio, where actions and results are tracked.

It is a good training, indeed. I won a prize for predicting the increase of value on specific IT-corporations, which was not in fashion at all.
