Question by  Vincent (75)

For how long should I expect new carpet shedding?

My carpet has been shedding for about 2 months.

It shouldn't last that long. Usually carpets shed a few days after the purchase, because they have a lot of extra fabric just hanging over and it looks like it's shedding because all of the fabric that was not supposed to be there is coming off. If it takes more than that, there's a problem.

New carpets will shed for about three to six months. Carpets with wool fibers sometimes shed longer depending on the quality of carpeting. Longer fibers that contain wool or shag carpeting shed longer. The best way to prevent or cut down on excessive shedding is to vacuum frequently or have your carpet professionaly cleaned.

It will shed for a while. Vacumn often, this will pick up the shedding. It will only shed where you walk.

This ultimately depends on the material the carpet is made from and the brand. However, after the first couple of vacuums it should have stopped.

I think the amount of time a carpet sheds is based on the type - super plush carpets will always shed to some degree though.
