Yes, lowrance is a good brand; but as in almost anything else the more you spend the better equipment you get (in general). Hummingbird fish finders work just fine as well, and are also a value brand. Pretty much all new fish finder work just fine, but try to find one with the features you need.

Lowrance fish finder's do work to find both individual and groups of fish and give the depth they are at. The only problem that I have seen with them is that while they tell you where the fish are, the fish finder does not increase the chances of you actually catching a fish.
