Although less likely than a muscular problem such a strain or a tear, it is certainly theoretically possible that nerve damage could cause the sensation of pain in the front of your leg. In your case it would be a sensory branch of the femoral nerve. Because the femoral nerve also has motor branches, you would also experience muscle weakness.

To be blunt, nerves are the cause, or more specifically, the only cause for pain of any type. If you have injured any part of your body, save for some internal organs that do not 'feel' pain, a nerve is sending the message to your brain. You probably pulled or tore your quadriceps.

There could be many reasons for muscle pain, whether or not it is in the quadriceps or another muscle group. A nerve is always a possibility, but it is impossible to diagnose with very limited information such as this. Your best solution is to see a doctor who can determine the cause of the pain.

That is entirely possible. You could have pinched it somewhere along the way or it might possibly be a strained muscle.
