most women prefer men who are taller. This is probably due to evolution and isn't really a shorter man's fault. It has been shown through research that women tend to prefer taller men and are much less likely to be attracted to men who are shorter. However, some women are willing to see past a man's height or general appearance

Yes, women tend to like guys that are taller than they are just because it tends to fit in with traditional gender roles. You can go for short girls, around 5'0" and that should not be a problem, or some girls don't really care as long as you do not feel self-conscious about it.
