Do python snakes get aggressive?

I want one for a pet.

Yes, they do. They are reptiles and therefore DO NOT develop a sense of loyalty towards their owners despite you feeding them. They are very strong, especially big ones. I am strongly advising you against it. Should you go against the advise: never handle the snake alone. Carry a knife.

Pythons in nature are predators; aggressive and accustomed to killing to eat. This is their nature and cannot be changed. They will try to kill and eat anything within the appropriate size range for the snake, which would mean your hampster, cat or newborn infant; depending on the snake.

Snakes are largely instinctive animals. Most reptiles will not form a bond with the owner, you are just a hot, large thing that brings food. They can be aggressive if threatened.

Some pythons are more aggressive than others. Some, such as the ball python, tends to be more docile and less aggressive. Younger ball pythons are considered to be more aggressive, in fact. Others, such as the African Rock Python, are more aggressive.
