Yeah it is neccessary to have one it just diminishes the chances of falling prisoner to a hospital bed or ending up in the hospital bed.

It may not hurt to wear one stating your condition. Think if you should be away from home and became unconscious and you couldn.t tell the rescue people.

Anyone that has a condition that requires a treatment of taking prescription medicines regularly should have a medic alert bracelet. In an emergency this could prevent dangerous drug interactions.
