In 1994, after his father was murdered, Michael Jordan retired from basketball and signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox, to honor the wishes of his father. He played for most of the year with the Birmingham Barons, a AA-level team, with mediocre results. The next year, he returned to basketball.
