If your computer is already on and you are signed on as someone else, you will need to log out of the existing account so that you can change to administrator. To do this go to 'start' and find 'log out' now simply log on as administrator (you may already be an administrator).

To enable the administrator account go to the start menu and type cmd in the search box. Next press Ctrl, Shift and Enter on the keyboard. In the command window type net user administrator /active:yes and press enter. Finally restart the PC and log in as administrator.

Under Vista and Windows 7 there can be more than one administrator account. There can be several sdministrator accounts with restricted rights, but they can do everything after confirmation. To activate the main admin go to system | control | local users and groups | user | administrator.
