Can you tell me how to choose a color for a front door?

The color of the front door should match the color of the rest of the trim for your house or at least be in the same family of colors. Avoid colors not in the same family other wise your house will look like that jalopy.

First you need to find out what period your house is. Benjamin Moore has historical paint. See what other people did to their door with a similiar house. Our house is Colonial and we have a Colonial Red door with new large hardware and a metal kick plate that attached to the wooden door.

Get some small paint samples of the color you are debating. Then paint small pieces of wood or cardboard and tape them up help choose one.

It is supposed to match your shutters and your soffit. White gives you a very clean look. Darker colors give you a more dramatic look. We are in the process of putting in new windows and they are white which means that we are gonna have to paint our front door white. Its a nice fresh look. We love it.
