Can you give me an example of a character reference?

My friend asked me to write one for him for a job application.

You should write a general letter about how long you've known the person, how you met, if you're related or just friends, and any experience you've had to work or volunteer together. Include your contact info in case the interviewer has more questions.

I've known John Smith for four years. We first met at Anytown High School, and we worked together in both the drama club and the radio club. John is time-oriented, efficient, dependable. He has outstanding communication skills, both in person and on the phone. I highly recommend John Smith for the position of X at your company.
