The "base" of a triangle is difficult to define as any of the sides could be defined as the base. Most early mathematical problems place the "base" on the bottom, and then ask you to find the length via the equation 1/2 x base x height = area.

The base of a triangle is the side directly opposite from the point. If it is on graph paper, count the squares.
