Yes after seeding your lawn you may spread a thin layer of straw on top to help maintain moisture needed to help the seeds grow

Straw is one of the best covers to help grow grass on your lawn. It will absorb moisure to keep the seed wet and insulates very well. It will prevent other seeds from germinating as well.

"Straw" is often a generic term for any tall grass that grows. Some times its Oats, or Rye, and even sometimes Rice. Not knowing what type of straw you would use, you could be asking for big problems in the future. You can use straw to grow grass, but it would likely take over a lawn rather than help it.

Using straw after planting grass seed will help keep the tender grass moist as well as protect the young shoots from the hot sun. Be sure and water the straw once a day until grass is at least an inch tall. Then, you can rake the straw carefully off the grass.

Yes, but it's a mess to clean up. I use the fertilizer machine, put grass seed and soil in it and spread on the lawn. This give it a even coverage. I use a little more seed in case the birds are hungry.
