Can gold be tested with battery acid?

I've heard this is one way to tell if it's really good, but I don't know if it's true.

I don't suggest that, because you might destroyed what every you are testing. Go to a qualified dealer and ask them what they think.

Battery acid is weak sulfuric acid, which will break down many metals other than gold. It's one of the acids used to clean pure gold, but shouldn't be used on mixed or unknown metals for general jewelry cleaning.
