Can an insurance company sue an adult son for a fire on the parents' rental home?

Yes, the adult son would be treated just as any other adult would. He may be sued based upon the findings of the investigation.

Yes, if the son lived in the house and paid rent. If he did not pay rent they could try to subrogate.

An adult son would be considered a resident of the household. Residents of the household are protected by household insurance policies and thus would he have immunity.

An insurance company can sue someone if the individual in question was found to have deliberately set the fire (by arson) or allowed the fire to occur through negligence (not maintaining the furnace, leaving a burning cigarette out, not supervising a gas grill).
