A pap smear detects cell abnormality, and further testing on the cells can reveal HPV (depending on what abnormal cells look like).

A Pap smear checks for pre-cancerous signs that may have been caused by HPV. So the results may show the possibility of a present HPV. Since HPV is a sexually transmitted disease, a regular pap smear is suggested.

Yes you can go and have your pap smear done and they can tell you if you have HPV after the results come back. They normally check but ask them to. A lot of times they will not tell you because the percentage of women with it is so high.

Yes this is actually the only way that you can find out if you have hpv. There is the possibility that the test could come back with the wrong reading like any test could do. HPV is usually undetectable with the eye so testing is the only way to be sure of whether or not you have it.
