Can a mammogram detect calcification?

Or would they just make you get any lump further checked out?

Yes, from personal experience I know this. My calcification looked like pieces of popcorn. I had to have a hollow needle biopsy. If you have calcification, of course they want it checked out. It's kind of hard to tell calcification from tumors.

This test can detect calcification. Usually, they are benign. A radiologist examines the size and positioning of the calcification. If they are in a tight cluster, a biopsy is sometimes called for. This is done by a needle biopsy or a surgical biopsy. A lump should be checked and you should get a yearly mammogram.

A calcification would show up on a mammogram as a lump. Sometimes, calcifications have jagged ends, which may be indicative of this type of matter, but breast masses often have this type of structure as well.

yes, a mammogram can detect calcification in your breast. You or your doctor cannot calcification process by palpation since they are tiny particles.
