With proper care from an exotics vet, infections can usually be cured. Don't keep pets if you aren't willing to provide them with medical care.
Yes, if properly treated. Take him/her to an exotics vet (not an ordinary cat/dog vet, one who specialises in rodents) for treatment.

Depending on what infection your hamster has most infections can be treated and they get over them with no problem
