Can a canine get Cushing's disease?

Is it basically a death sentence for them?

I think they can. Cushing's disease does not have a cure. You can only control the symptoms and, depending onthe gland that is affected, you can provide the hormone that the dog needs. The dog can live a long, normal life if the vet controls these symptoms.

Cushing's, which is a malfunction of the adrenal glad, does occur in dogs. There is not cure per se, but there are treatments and medications to prolong your dog's life.

Yes, dogs can get Cushing's Disease and it can kill them!! It can lead to kidney failure, and a host of illnesses common to humans.

Yes, they can. Diagnosis requires a couple of blood tests to confirm the disease. This test is known as an ACTH stimulation test. Blood is drawn when the pet comes into the office. Then an injection is given to stimulate cortisol production. Then a post injection blood draw is done. The pre and post blood draw samples then are compared.

This would depend on what the cause of the Cushing's disease is and would depend also on the health of your dog. If your dog is strong or otherwise doing well, there may be treatments available for this disease that would help. Your vet would be the best judge as to whether or not the dog could be treated successfully.
