Since we can't write italics...

Italics and cursive are two different things. Italics is basically handwriting with a rightward slant. It's difficult to do by hand but easy to do on a computer. Cursive writing is a style that connects letters within a word for faster writing.

Italics are not the same as cursive handwriting. An easy way to tell them apart is that italics are a computer font that pretty much slants the words.
