This sounds like the washer is tripping a thermal overload (breaker). This can be caused from a few things...bad motor that turns the tub, bad spin control board, or a piece of clothing caught in between the tub and drum.

A washing machine may turn off by itself with an unbalanced load that needs to be redistributed. The machine also needs to be leveled if not on even ground.

There could be a couple of reasons! The first is that your timer may need replacing and the second is your circuit is overloaded.

Most likely it is a short in your control wiring. You should take it to an appliance repair shop, if you can find one. But your choices are probably going to be to call an electrician or to buy a new washer. There is also the possibility that the safety switch that the lid compresses when closed is stuck open.

They're suppose to shut off by themselves at the end of the wash cycle. If it's doing it in the middle, your load is imbalanced and you need to open it and rearrange the wet clothes.

It could have a short circuit or there could be some other kind of a malfunction. Alternatively, it may just be getting old. Most likely, however, it's because the load is imbalanced.
