Why is Windows XP SP3 taking a long time to install?

Windows XP SP3's installation might be taking long because if its a fresh install then its transferring all the data to the HDD, it also depends on the HDD speed.

There are several reasons to this. It may be that you are running too many programs, which can make your CPU slow as it will be too busy running the other programs. If that is the case, open task manager and end the process that is taking too much CPU. Be careful not to end critical system processes.

It may be due to many reasons - one of them may be that it is trying to figure out what version your existing software is... let it finish completely.
