Dogs can smell for a variety of reasons. Sometimes the smell can arise from an ear infection so be sure to sniff the ears to check if that's the origin of the odor. Odor can also be caused by impaction of the anal glands/sacs. Another cause of odor is diseased gums and teeth.

Based only on my experience with animals, that is to say, cats and dogs, I would say that she smells because she is not sterilized. The strong smell you feel, probably in urine is because of that. I assure you the vet is going to say the same!

She is probably on her cycle and you may not realize it at all. She may just need a good bath also. She will have a smell as long as she is still intact and not spayed.

What does she smell like? It is poo, coat smell, urine etc. Give the dog a good bath with some shampoo that leaves the coat smelling good. Take all the things that it has some in contact with and give them a good washing. Maybe change the food. Ask your vet.

Dogs have anal glands or scent glands that are like those of a skunk. In nature these glands are used for marking territory.

She could possibly pregnant again. The more likely situation would be that she has an anal infection which tends to leave a foul odor. Bring her to the vet and they'll drain her for you.
